I compiti per l'estate - Homework for the holidays

Questa estate ha fatto veramente troppo caldo... a un certo punto non riuscivo neanche a tenere in mano il pennello per quanto sudavano le mani. Tuttavia, prima che l'afa ci avvolgesse sono riuscito a dipingere qualcosa: oltre al range della Guerra Civile Inglese che ormai sta prendendo forma, ho dipinto questi meravigliosi pezzi della Wargame Foundry e della Perrin.

Inoltre ho montato questo bel modello del "carroarmato" di Leonardo da Vinci che è quasi perfettamente in scala con le miniature in 28 mm. Pronto per essere usato con le nuove regole di Furioso...

This summer it was really too hot ... at a certain point I could not even hold the brush in my hand for how much my hands were sweating. However, before the sultriness enveloped me I managed to paint something: in addition to the range of the English Civil War that is now taking shape, I painted these wonderful pieces of the Wargame Foundry and Perrin.

I have also mounted this beautiful model of the Leonardo da Vinci's "tank" that is almost perfectly scaled with the 28 mm miniatures. Ready to be used with the new rules of Furioso ...

 

I Ginetti e i giocatori di carte - The Jinetes and the card players

Bè, non si può avere un esercito spagnolo rinascimentale senza schierare almeno alcune unità di Jinetes (o Ginetti), le cavallerie leggere addestrate nelle guerre contro i Mori, armate con giavellotti o lance leggere e scudi di foggia moresca. Ho cercato di dargli un aspetto più moresco che europeo, sia con i colori delle bardature dei cavalli che con quelli degli scudi. Ho utilizzato le miniature Perry aggiungendo scudi - credo della Foundry- trovati ad un bring & buy qualche tempo fa.

Well , you can not have a Spanish Renaissance army without deploying at least some units of Jinetes (or Genitors) , light cavalry trained in the wars against the Moors , armed with javelins and spears and light shields in Moorish fashion. I tried to give them a Moorish look more that European, both with the colors of the trappings of the horses and with those of the shields . I used the Perry miniatures adding shields - probably from Foundry- found to a bring & buy some time ago.

Inoltre, come divertissement, ho dipinto questa scenetta di tre lanzi che giocano a carte (pezzi della Redoubt Enterprises). Andranno a popolare gli accampamenti che sto preparando e dei quali si intravede una tenda...

Finalmente sul campo

Finalmente, dopo due anni di preparativi, siamo riusciti a schierare abbastanza miniature per giocare! Abbiamo deciso di rigiocare la battaglia di Novara che, nel 1513, mise a confronto l'armata svizzera con quella francese, non ancora comandata da Francesco I.
Tutte le informazioni relative alla battaglia le troverete sui miei due principali blog di riferimento, "Olicanalad" e "Blunders on the Danube".
Utilizzando il regolamento Pike & Shotte, sono state schierate le seguenti unità:

Francesi:

• 4 Unità di Gendarmi
• 2 unità di balestrieri in ordine chiuso

  

  I balestrieri francesi

• 3 unità di balestrieri in ordine aperto
• 1 unità di balestrieri a cavallo
• 1 unità di stradiotti
• 1 quadrato di lanzichenecchi

  

  L'ala sinistra francese, con i lanzichenecchi e le artiglierie

• 1 unità di archibugieri lanzi
• 2 batterie di artiglieria media

Svizzeri

La colonna destra degli svizzeri

• 3 quadrati di picchieri
• 1 unità di alabardieri
• 3 unità di archibugieri
• 1 batteria di art leggera
• 1 unità di cavalleria pesante

La battaglia ha visto l'attacco a sorpresa degli svizzeri su tre direttrici d'azione, mentre le cavallerie francesi ancora dormivano nell'accampamento. Nonostante il ritardo nell'intervento dei gendarmi, le altre unità francesi sono riuscite a trattenere gli svizzeri abbastanza a lungo per dar tempo ai cavalieri di intervenire. Alla fine la vittoria ha arriso ai francesi grazie ad una travolgente carica della cavalleria pesante che ha travolto un quadrato svizzero che aveva appena aperto un varco nello schieramento francese respingendo il quadrato dei lanzi.

Risultato soddisfacente anche per il regolamento che, debitamente "limato" con qualche modifica di piccola entità, ha "girato" molto bene (rapido da imparare e da giocare) e senza incongruenze storiche.

Finally, after two years of preparation, we were able to deploy enough miniatures to play!
We decided to replay the battle of Novara, in 1513, where the Swiss army defied the French, not yet controlled by Francis I. The data relating to the battle are on my two main blogs of reference, "Olicanalad" and "Blunders on the Danube".
Using "Pike & Shotte" rules, we deployed the following units:

French:
• 4 units of Gendarmes
• 2 units of crossbowmen in close order
• 3 units of crossbowmen in open order
• 1 unit of mounted crossbowmen
• 1 unit of stradiotti
• 1 square of Landsknecht
• 1 unit of Landsknecht arquebusiers
• 2 medium artillery batteries

• 1 unit of halberdiers
• 3 units of arquebusiers
• 1 battery of light art
• 1 unit of heavy cavalry


The battle saw the surprise attack of the Swiss on three directions of action, while the French cavalry were still asleep in the camp. Despite the delay in the intervention of the Gendarmes, the other French units have managed to retain the Swiss long enough to give time to the cavalry to intervene. In the end, victory he has smiled to the French thanks to an overwhelming load of heavy cavalry that swept a square Swiss who had just broken through the French lines.
Solid performance for the regulation, duly "filed" with some minor change, has "turned" very good (quick to learn and play) and without historical inconsistencies.
